Thought of a local blogger

The link below is taken from a blog set up by a Singaporean. His position resonates that of the Singapore Government probably due to his involvements as a grassroot leader – the Chairman of Changi Simei Citizens’ Consultative Committee (CCC).

Much as he recognised the fact that the coming of these foreigners may undermine the “Singaporean identity” by “turning ‘true blue’ citizens into second class citizens in our own country” (Koh 2010), his argument revolves around the importance of and need for attracting foreigners to ensure our nation’s (economic) survival.

It is interesting to note that Koh’s idea of ‘true blue’ citizens becoming second class pertains to the idea of locally bred Singaporeans losing their economic status and not so much as losing a sense of identity or a sense of belonging to Singapore.
